What is a Firewall?
Our firewall is a security measure that is implemented to protect our computers and our computer network from unauthorized access. Unfortunately in today's world, there are a lot of devious hackers working diligently for one purpose, to access unauthorized computer information. Initially, targets were only large institutions or very visible businesses, today hackers seek out all sorts of sites regardless of size or visibility, simply to see if they can access them and gain personal information.
Our firewall is a combination of hardware and software, put into place and configured to prevent hackers from accessing any computer systems or servers on our network. I also keeps information from being sent out from your computer without your knowledge.
Along with our firewall is a Virtual Private Network (VPN) that is being implemented. This device will allow for connectivity to YCOE network services regardless of your work location. It is intended as a tool to allow off-site, or district placed personnel the ability to access the many technology services we offer. For those staff that are off-site or district housed, we will be configuring your computer to access the VPN, if we have not already, the the very near future.
