Together we are truly making a difference
There’s a certain “Wow Factor” for all of us who work in education. Although it’s more distinguishable when you work a traditional 10-month work calendar, it certainly does not disappear when you work an alternate work schedule. I’m referring to the anticipation and upswing in mood that we experience beginning around the first of August when we know the new work year, as well as the first day of school, is right around the corner. You can see teachers and other staff getting their classrooms ready, the custodians putting the finishing, shining touches on the buildings and grounds, and administrators running around checking and re-checking, scheduling meetings, and answering questions. Our schools and programs in Yuba County are doing just that!
We are operating in an era of change. Like other educational agencies, we are receiving less and less money to operate the same programs with increasing requirements. Some grants are no longer being funded and with that, we have lost some very valued employees. I truly believe that even in these most difficult times, and with the uncertain outlook that is forecast for the near future, we will not only survive – we will thrive. Opportunities for growth may be harder to find, but they are there; we must search and discover the opportunities that are right for us and develop them.
Remember our Mission Statement:
The Yuba County Office of Education’s purpose is to improve the quality of life for all Yuba County citizens. Our specialty is equipping those with unique needs with the knowledge, skills and attitudes that will establish their journey and empower them to realize their full potential.
We are charged with this responsibility and I believe we have built the capacity, styled our staff, and modeled the attitude that continues to make a difference in everything we do. I ask you to enter this new school year with a renewed pledge of quality customer service to our students and clients and to value the work of others as you build long-lasting relationships.
Historically, we have held an Annual Welcome Back Meeting for all Yuba County Office of Education employees. This was a time that we joined together, reviewed our goals, and had the opportunity to hear and learn of all our different programs. Unfortunately, with decreased funding, we have decided not to host such a gathering this year. However, this will allow the opportunity for all programs to have their own opening staff meetings and perhaps this will give each small group a chance to unify and review their own placement under the “big umbrella” of Yuba County Office of Education. Both I, along with our Directors, will be visiting as many sites as possible on Monday, August 16, to take part in your specific meeting.
Have a wonderful new work year!
Sincerely,
Richard D. Teagarden, Superintendent Yuba County Office of Education
