Special Education             

The Special Education Department of the Yuba County Office of Education provides programs and services to eligible special education students aged 3-21.  Regional special education programs provide a free and appropriate public education in the least restrictive environment for students in all 5 districts. Eligibility and service needs are determined by the Individualized Education Program team which includes the parent.  A continuum of services is available based on individual needs which may include itinerant support to the classroom, pullout services or special day classes.

Programs are designed to meet the unique needs of students with identified disabilities including:

  • Preschoolers with special needs
  • Students with autism spectrum disorders
  • Students with moderate/severe disabilities
  • Students with severe physical impairments
  • Students with speech and language impairments
  • Students with visual impairments

In addition to special day class options for students, related services are available when eligible for:

  • Speech and Language Therapy
  • Adapted Physical Education
  • Itinerant services for students with Visual Impairments
  • Occupational Therapy
  • Physical Therapy
  • WorkAbility
  • Orientation and Mobility
  • Behavior Specialist

Support Services

          Nursing Services:

  • Required annual health screenings
  • Health and developmental assessments for special education referrals
  • Staff training in specialized health care procedures
  • Monitor individual student health issues
  • Provide follow-up with medical professionals, classroom staff and families regarding student health concerns
  • Provide health education information to staff and students

          Psychological Services:

  • Initial evaluations for special education referrals in designated area of concern
  • Triennial evaluations for special education students
  • Coordination of services and referrals to agencies in support of student educational needs
  • Support to classroom teachers in areas of behavior and instruction
  • Support to families regarding student behavior and social and emotional issues

Additional Regional Services:

  • Services to infants with special needs are provided by the Sutter County Superintendent of Schools for both Yuba and Sutter Counties
  • Services to students with emotional disturbances are provided by the Marysville Joint Unified School District
  • Services to students who are deaf or hard of hearing are provided by the Sutter County Superintendent of Schools for both Yuba and Sutter Counties
