FAMILY ACTIVITY:

  • Parents should help their children to realize that their actions affect other people and their feelings. Talk to your children about the importance of being respectful of another's viewpoint.
  • Have each member of the family share about a time during the week when they observed someone being kind and sensitive.
  • Do not allow your children to insult people even if they are not present. Do not make insulting remarks in your children's presence.

CLASS ACTIVITY:

  • Have students put on skits depicting someone correcting someone saying something insensitive.
  • During art have students learn some simple origami.

HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITY:

  • Our community is full of diversity. Discuss how people can be respectful of each other's beliefs and practices without abandoning their own.
  • Discuss how to deal with the intolerance and insensitivity of others both when it is directed at oneself and when it is directed at others.
  • How sensitive should the United States be toward the wishes of other countries?
