FAMILY ACTIVITY:
- Parents, talk about a problem around the house that needs to be
taken care of and discuss the wisest way to fix the situation with
your children. Involve your children in the decision as partners,
not recipients of orders. Resolve on a plan of action and carry it
out.
- Watch the nightly news with your children and talk to them about
one of the stories, try to get them to express their opinions to
you. Encourage them to think about the story even if you disagree
with their opinions.
- Talk to your children about current events and ask them to express
opinions about what is happening.
CLASS ACTIVITY:
- Give your students a riddle to solve.
- Have students bring a newspaper article to class and tell the
class about it.
- Have students read an entry in an encyclopedia and share what they
learned with the class.
HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITY:
- Discuss the place of reason in making moral judgments. Is morality
based on reasoning through objective information or is it based on a
person's gut feelings? What happens when the two are in conflict?
- Design a trivia game, maybe on the Jeopardy model, that tests your
students' knowledge of the things they should have learned during
the year.
