FAMILY ACTIVITY:

  • Parents should talk to their children about: how to use their time wisely, how to conserve energy, and why they should recycle.
  • Take your children grocery shopping and tell them that you are willing to spend a specific amount on snacks for them. Let them decide what snacks they want within your budget.
  • Help your children to open a savings account at a local bank. Encourage them to save part of their allowance or wages.
  • Talk to your older children about responsible use of credit cards.

HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITY:

  • Discuss ways the government could save money.
  • Discuss ways your school could save time or money without damaging education.
  • Have students prepare a personal budget for a month or a year.
  • Have students calculate how much more something costs if it is bought with a credit card and not paid off for a year.
