FAMILY ACTIVITY:

  • Parents should teach their children to say hello to people they meet when they are with them.
  • Encourage your children to be open to meeting new people.
  • Encourage your children to help their friends, and to thank people who help them.
  • Take your children with you when you are helping one of your friends.

CLASS ACTIVITY:

  • When a new student arrives, assign a group of students to show them around the school. Encourage students to be friendly with the new student.
  • Put students who appear to be lonely in seating groups with students who are open and friendly to encourage a new friendship.
  • Have students perform skits showing people meeting and becoming friends.

CREATING A POSITIVE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT:

  • A friendly classroom atmosphere is conducive to student success; being kind and open with your students will encourage a positive, friendly environment. In an open environment, students feel comfortable asking for help and they feel more comfortable participating in class discussions.
